Capture/ Reflection 12
As I have been preparing for the final in this class, I have realized that I have a lot of memorizing to do. There is so much information and concepts on this test. I don't do well at memorizing things, so I have a lot of work to do. If I was a teacher I would teach the concepts and principles through out the semester and constantly refer back to them so the students don't feel like the have a lot of information to memorize. For my tests I hope that I had taught well enough that it is common knowledge and will be easy to apply what they have learned. For this class I feel that we learned a certain principle for a minute then the rest of the semester didn't refer back to it or relate it. This isn't just for one particular thing, this is for almost everything that will be on the test.

Capture/ Reflection 11
Today my group taught the 6th grade class at Foothill Elementary in Orem. We taught the student about what makes an effective commercial. First we had a bag full of different candy bars that we put together and as the students walked through the door the picked a candy bar. They were told not to eat it yet. The students sat down and we introduced ourselves, then we got started. We showed a couple of commercials as an intro, then we taught 3 main components of an effective commercial (A Story, Call of Action, and Emotions). After each component we showed an example commercial and had them point out the different component being taught. we then taught briefly on camera angles and music. After that we broke into our groups, depending on what candy bar they picked at the beginning of class determined which group they were in. We had 6 different groups. In my group our main candy bar we were assigned was Rolos. I reviewed with them the 3 components, then we listened to about 8 different background music pieces. Through listening to these songs it helped the students what there story was going to be. After they picked the song that they wanted they then brainstormed ideas and came up with a story. The students then rehearsed the commercial a bunch of times, till I felt like they had a good idea of what they wanted to do. One of the students was the cameraman and the others had to be the actors. While the students were acting I helped the cameraman on the actual filming of it . We then filmed the commercial. Using Windows Movie Maker we added the background music to their commercial and saved it as a movie file. After everyone was done filming we watched a couple more commercials to test their understanding of the 3 different components taught. Finally we watched the students commercials a had them tell us the 3 components of each of their commercials. I feel like this group teaching worked out quite well. It was nice to be able to split up into small groups. Overall I feel like the students not only had fun watching and making commercials, but in the end were able to recognize the different components in the commercials that made it an effective commercial.

This past week my group has been planning for our elementary teaching. I have found that there are pros and cons in teaching with a group. Everyone has different ideas of what they want to do, or some may not have any ideas at all. I found it to be hard to evenly spread out the work/ teaching time in a group. It seems as though in general, only a couple of people do all the work and the rest are free loaders and don't do much. It actually was better in my group than expected. Most of us gave inputs and taught a fair amount. Sometimes I think that teaching by myself would be easier, but on the other hand in a group you can get more ideas together that I may not of even thought of.

Capture/ Reflection 9
I feel like this class has taught me a lot on the fundamentals of teaching. After teaching a few times I am starting to notice a difference that it makes if I have objectives and practice teaching what I am teaching. I am the Young Men's President in my ward and I have been teaching a lot whether it is on Sunday or on our weekly activities. I feel like I was given this calling so I can become a better teacher. I also feel that through this TEE program I am going to be a better teacher/leader for the youth in my ward. I feel like both my calling and this program go side by side with each other to give me the experience of teaching youth and the fundamentals of teaching. After a years of schooling through other Universities, I finally feel that I have found an occupation that goes along with my gifts and talents. Through the TEE program and the Young Men's program I will be able to strengthen my talents and gifts.

Capture/ Reflection 8
Yesterday I taught about bridge design. While preparing for what I wanted to teach I debated if I should teach something electrical, since I was an electrician and have lots of experience with it. In the end I decided to teach something new that I didn't know much about. I am glad that I taught on bridge design , it now gives me a start for a lesson that that I might actually use when I start teaching at a school. For the most part I felt that my teaching went well. I practiced teaching to my wife and also practiced my demonstrations of the bridge stress points with her also. I felt like I did fairly well at planning the time. Even though I had 20 minutes, I felt I needed an extra minute or two to finish off completely with my teaching. I think my minutes were off a little bit because I spent more time on pre-questions than I planned on, but I felt like it was needed. I felt like my teaching and demonstrations ran smoothly for the most part. I find that when I teach, if i don't know someones name super well (use it on a daily basis), I seem to blank out their names. I feel a little embarrassed because I know their name, but my mind just goes blank. Overall as a whole I feel l did well, but there is always room for improvement.

Capture/ Reflection 7
Our class went and took the TSA test, which tests on powerpoint, word, excel and internet use. I didn't like these tests very much. Supposedly by taking these tests then we are technology certified with the state. Sure these programs can be very useful, but I think that considering us tech certified is a joke. The state doesn't give room for improvement or allow for the idea that there is a lot better technology programs out there that make the TSA test programs look crappy. I feel that if the are to test us then there should be different levels of tech certification rather than just generalizing it with a few programs.

Capture/ Reflection 6
This week as the presenters did their teaching on medical technologies. I felt like overall they did pretty well. I still have a hard time observing and critiquing their teaching. I feel like I get to involved in what they are teaching rather than paying attention to how they are teaching. I am still not used to it yet. I have a feeling that this class is going to be a struggle for me. I enjoy teaching, but I don't love critiquing. Hopefully by the end of the semester I will actually grasp all of this stuff.
